Chapter 13-15

Chapter 13

While reading chapter thirteen there are many important factors that are related to being safe at home, work safe recreation and the reducing of risks on the road. When it comes to reducing risks on the road there is a huge concern with many people driving and getting into accidents. The amount of the numbers of death from people being distracted driving from using their phones is high in numbers. I’m going to be honest there are times when I’m at a red light that I will look at my phone while driving. Once finding out more information about this, my goal is to not look at my phone while at a red light.  It it’s that important of a call or text, find a parking lot to stop and look at it.  I think one of the ways why so people are getting distracted with their phones while driving is because they can’t go without their phone.  This is almost like an addiction thing for the person. The phone can wait while driving so you don’t get into an accident or even hurt yourself or even someone else that was involved because you decided to make a bad decision.  Once I put my goal in place it will help with my health by decreasing the risk of getting hurt in an accident or something bad happening while driving. The second one is the safe recreation with bike safety. It’s important to wear a helmet when you are riding a bike. When I was a child, I grew up with wearing one then as a teen I stopped wearing one and still don’t wear one if I go for a bike ride. I should be wearing a helmet when I go for bike rides. Recently I went for a bike ride with the little boy I watch, he was wearing a helmet, so when he saw me not wearing a helmet, he asked me why I don’t wear one.  Ever since then it has made me think about wearing one, so my goal is getting one and always wearing it when I ride my bike. The reason why it’s important to wear a helmet for myself is to protect my head from anything happening to it if I get in an accident while bike riding. If I didn’t wear one something bad could happen to my head that will affect my life and body forever. The last one is the safety at home. When it comes to safety at home there are many factors to look into, they are similar in many ways to the work environment as well. A couple of factors that are similar is the falls, fire, and CPR both in your home and working environment. CPR is an important part to many jobs. My job CPR is one of the information we need to know when working with children if anything were to happen to a child that was in my care. Another reason it’s important to know CPR is because it could save a life. When you are reading about ways to prevent a fire from happening in your house or any place. Some of the ways of prevention are cords, outlets, making sure there is a fire extinguisher at jobs that require you to have them and so on. Looking at all of the risks that can help when a fire happens.  You are risking your life in so many ways so if you look at the ways to prevent these situations, it will help with your life. From learning this I will look more into at my house for the ways to prevent a fire from happening for my healthy life. When a fire happens there could be many side effects that happen like burns or a different type of health affect.  While reading about falls in the work environment, I was surprised to see the numbers of falls that were work related and that it was the third common death for unintentional injuries. When I’m working, I have to watch myself to not fall.  I work with young children, so they have toys everywhere and they don’t know how to clean them up, depending on age of them. There have been times where I tripped over a toy because I haven’t seen it, or I moved too quick. There have been times where I would step on toys and that was not fun. Knowing this information my goals for my life to prevent anything happening to me is watching closer to see where I go.  If there is a toy in the area picking up the toys off the floor first, then move then move a little slower.

Chapter 14

This chapter has lots of information on what the world is going to become with the global warming, pollution we are living in and the climate change. When you look at the global warming that is happening everywhere in this world with warm temperatures and glaciers that are melting. It affects us now but as time goes on it will become worse and worse with the time changing, temperature changes and anything that is changing involving global warming. There are many people who don’t believe that global warming is happening or that it’s not going to affect us as time goes by. I don’t understand why people don’t believe that because there has been much research done on global warming from many scientists on what is happening in this world. One of the things with global warming that is being created are toxins that are now in the air around us. Form these toxins there is research that has been done to see how it would affect our life and health. Scientists do know that some of the toxins aren’t good for your body and the effects they have on a person. For my health with the temperature changing from global warming it is getting hot as the seasons go on which isn’t good for a person who can get over heated quickly and it can cause dehydration. The second one is the air pollutions that is in the air. There are many affects to health from sulfur dioxide, particulates, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ground-level ozone and lead. Another air pollution that is huge right now and you see it everywhere outside is the pollen. Pollen is not good for some people as the season of that allergy comes around. I’m one of those people that have to take an allergy medicine in the morning because of the seasonal allergy I have to pollen. It has affected my life for many years and as time goes on it is getting worse.  Someone told me recently that it has been higher this year more then even before. One of the goals I do to keep it from coming in my room during this time of year is not opening my window, so the pollen doesn’t come in my room and make my allergies worse.  The last one is the pollution on land like the waste we create every day. It important to make sure the waste that is created is going to the right place for the environment. When it comes to recycling, there are times that I don’t think to put it in the recycling bin when I’m home I will just throw it in the trash. After reading this section my goal is to start recycling everything that I waste in the recycle that’s not trash because its better for the environment. I have noticed before, going to certain places they don’t have a recycle trash bin which isn’t good for the environment. We should have more recycle bins when you are out in certain places in public. When you have a battery that goes bad or doesn’t work anymore it is important to make sure it gets to the correct waste bin. There are many toxins inside batteries that if they came out it would be bad for the environment. I have always made sure when it needs to go to waste that it in the right spot. I have been told before that if it is not good to put them in the trash barrel. The place for them to go is the recycle which is where I will put it from now on.

Chapter 15

During this chapter I learned information about the health insurance and health care. I’m lucky that I’m still on my parent’s health insurance which is a huge help to have for not worrying about the money involved in healthcare premiums and deductibles. I’m pretty good about paying for my co-payment when I go to the doctors. The law they have for college students to be able to stay on their parent’s insurance while in college is important because if they didn’t have that, there would be many college students who wouldn’t be able to afford insurance for themselves. From having my parent’s health insurance, they have in the past told me things that are important to look into when eventually there will be a time that I would have to get my own insurance. Knowing this information will help for my health finding the right insurance company that will work for me when it’s that time to change. I know many people around my age who are on Mass Health Care Insurance because they can’t afford a different type of health insurance. Mass Health is helpful in my ways because it’s important to have health insurance and take care of your health so nothing bad happens to you because you couldn’t afford insurance. The second one is the prescription drugs and over the counter drugs. There is much information to look into when you are using over the counter drugs and the effects of them on your body. I don’t like to use any type of over the counter medicine. Whenever I get a headache, which is like never, except when I don’t drink enough water, I’m not the type of person who will take a medicine to get rid of the headache. I don’t want my body to get used to the medicine to help get rid of a headache. I have in the past taken medicine when I had a headache and It didn’t help get rid of it. This is one of the reasons why I don’t take any medicine there is no point in taking medicine if it’s not going to help your body. I suffer from anxiety I have had it all my life and I don’t take any medicine to help with it. There are a couple of family members who want me to take medicine to help with my anxiety. The reason behind why I don’t want to is because of the side effects that the medicine could have and that I don’t want my body to get used to a medicine then I have to rely on that every day of my life. There are other ways to help with anxiety not being involved using prescription drugs. One of the ways that helps me with my anxiety is by working out and getting my mind off of what is making me anxious. Another way of helping me cope with this is by walking away from what is making me feel anxious. The last one is the health care providers. After reading about how to find the doctors or health care providers that works better for us. I have wanted to change my health care physician for a little bit because of many reasons why. Since reading this it has me thinking more about finding a new one and what I should be looking for. There is much information to be looking for when getting a physician for yourself. It’s your health that important for yourself and having a good physician that you like will help with your life/health.

Chapter 10-12

Chapter 10

This chapter talks about fitness and physical activity. While reading this it has helped me a lot with my physical activity and fitness with my goals of getting back to the gym more than four times a week and what activity I should be doing and how long for my healthy life I want to live. When it comes to the physical activity in the first section of this chapter the proper ways when you are exercising and the effects on your body and health. One of the reasons why I changed recently what type of activity I was doing was because when I went to the gym, I was just doing weight not cardio which is why there was no difference anymore in my body and my health.  I started doing a different type of physical activity which is a cardio sport, one which I’m getting to do four sometimes five days a week. I love it because I’m getting the cardio and muscle strength that I wasn’t getting at the other gym I was going to. Also, when you do join this gym it is by class and they are set times. From this happening I will also be able to go because I know what time and it set in those time. From switching to this it has helped me know what time I’m going and what time I can go through. My old gym you could go in whenever you want. I think for some people if you have the choice, they are going to not go maybe they don’t want to work out or their schedule is too busy they just want to go home and hangout about their house.  My goal for doing this was being to want to work out using all the health benefits for my body. Once I started doing it, I has seen a different in the benefits I has done on my body and the way I fell about my body now. In this section there is one thing I would like to work on is the muscular endurance. My goal is to be able to get more muscle strength to be able to do more pushups than I can do now. I’m not good at doing pushups, I think my problem at first was that I wasn’t doing them right. From practicing them I have learned to do them correctly and have been doing then right for about two weeks now. By the end of the summer my goal is to be able to do about 15-20 push-ups each time I’m working out. The second one is the common obstacles for physical activity that I want to improve on and set goals for. One of the obstacles I come along with when it comes to exercise for me is that I don’t like to run. With my new gym/activity I’m doing now has part of it where you are running. From doing this I have gotten used to running. One of my goals is, to as time goes one and I get better at running, is to go faster when I’m running. One goal I want to do is run another 5k within the next year. I ran a 5k before and it took me about an hour to finish. When running more than before the next time I run a 5k I want to be able to reach my goal by doing a 5k under what I did before. I would like to be able to do it under 45 minutes. The last one for this chapter is the stretching. When I work out, I don’t think or even do it after working out. Once I’m done with my workout I leave. One goal I want to do is to start after every workout to stretch once I’m done. It’s important to stretch when you are done because it helps with your body in getting better with a range of motion when you are working out. I have noticed sometimes when I don’t stretch, I get muscle cramps like the next day or even shortly after a workout cause I’m not stretching out my muscle. I’m also not flexible when it comes to physical activity which is definitely because of not stretching. To improve my goals for a healthy lifestyle with exercise I will plan on, making time to stretch after a workout. I also found that I wasn’t stretching because I didn’t have enough time after my workout.

Chapter 11

This chapter talks about cancer, cardiovascular diseases, the effects it has on your body and risk factors. The ones that really caught my attention was the lung cancer, breast cancer and skin cancer. When I read the section on breast cancer, I didn’t think that it would be that high of the number for both men and women except for men getting this type of cancer. That way it is important to do self-examinations a couple times a week or even every day. I think that there are many people out there who think they don’t have to because they get exams when they go to the doctors for their physicals. When they go for the physical, they think that one time will be good enough to change but it’s not because one can get checked but weeks or months after something could happen. From this section I think about how I should be doing self-examinations more to prevent the chance of getting breast cancer. It important for me because I want to life a healthy lifestyle. The second is lung cancer and how it is more common in death then breast cancer is for women. I would have never thought that it is more common than breast cancer. One of the risk factors that I watch for when it comes to lung cancer is that my dad smokes. I grew up with it when we were going on family vacation of even parties, he would be smoking in the car with us. As we got older we would tell him how bad the second hand smoke is for us that he won’t do it as much depending on how long the car ride was he could wait till we get there are if it was long he would have one or two in the car. Now that I drive my own car and stuff, I will take my own car just so I’m not in the same car as him because he will smoke with me there. For my healthy lifestyle I will walk away from him when he is smoking to help prevent the risk of getting lung cancer myself. I know I’m still at risk for it because it goes right into his clothes and stuff so that smell is still there for anyone to inhale the cigarettes smell. Once I remove myself the risk is not so much as if I was standing right with him when he was smoking it. The last one is the skin cancer. When it comes to summer time or even before that when the sun comes out during the day and I’m outside I will be putting sunblock on me because I burn so quick. I have had people tell me in the past that my skin looks so good and that I take care of it when I’m in the sun. I have had many family members have had damaged skin removed from being in the sun. They did not have cancer, but it just makes me even careful when it comes to going outside in the sun. When I was in high school and still now, I know so many girls who would use the tanning salon to get tans or even lay out in the sun all day every day during the summer. I’m not that type of person I have never used a tanning salon or lay out in the sun all day long. I don’t like or want to use the tanning salon because you have a high risk of getting skin cancer from them. I want my skin to be healthy and look healthy when things like this happens your skin changes over time. My goals to prevent skin cancer is not use the tanning beds, applying sunblock when outside and watching what I use on my skin and how I should be using it. I want this goal for my skin for it to be healthy. I’m the type of person that applies sunblock all the time even when I could wait a little bit. I have got sunburn before in my life and when it happens it so red and hurts because I have the fair skin.

Chapter 12

In chapter 12 there are many factors that are discussed about your immune system, infections, and vaccinates.  Vaccines are a big problem in this day in our world with people not believing in vaccinating their child. There are many reasons behind why parents don’t want or believe in getting their child vaccinated. I work with many children in a daycare setting who, if they aren’t vaccinated because of the age they are where they are too little that are at a higher risk for them to get sick. From that being said, as a teacher there were vaccines requested to have and have to show records before we can even start working there. I believe that children should be vaccinated for themselves and the other people around them. It’s an important thing to do in life because there are many illnesses that can be deadly to many young children. For example, the measles is so bad in a young child if an infant gets in contact with them that child could die. There have been cases that this has happened before. I have been vaccinated which is good for me because I’m able to do what I want to do as a career. There are going to be many people who will have a hard time getting a job if there are vaccines cause the job will require you to have them. For my health I feel that it important that I did get them when I was a child to protect anything from happening to me with a preventable illness. The second one of the immune systems for how it works on your body. My immune system, I feel it’s strong especially during sick season of colds or stomach bugs. I’m around children all the time during this season which is why I feel that my immune system is strong. I’m not the type of person who will catch it from another child. One of the important things I do for my health when working with sick children is always washing my hands or using hand sanitizer. I also clean and sanitize everything that child uses or is around like tables or toys. My goal of living a heathy life is by washing hands and keeping everything clean to protect any germs from spreading. The last one tick-borne bacterial diseases. I can’t stand ticks they freak me out so much. For my goal when I go out that close to the woods, I will start to wear bug spray to prevent anything happening with ticks or mosquitoes. I’m the type of person that doesn’t like to put on bug spray because I don’t like the way it feels and smells. One thing I can do to help prevent this for happening is to use bug spray. Another factor is if I see a tick on my body anywhere to remove it, so it doesn’t stay on me. I have a tick crawl on me before when this happen, I would remove it from my body to prevent anything from happening.

Chapter 7-9

Chapter 7

Well reading chapter seven I learned more information on the statics of alcohol with college students and also on tobacco use. When you look at how many college students drink during college at parties, it was high in the percent and how most of the time it is encourage drinking or peer pressure drinking not a choose that some people wanted to do deep down for themselves. If you think about it, if there is one person in the crowd at the party who don’t want to drink but all the other ones are, they are mostly likely going to think that they are left out so they will join them which is when the peer pressure is set in. Once I turned 21 here were a couple family members of my that would try to get me to drink if we were out to dinner or even at a family party. There were times where I fell peer pressured into doing it. There were a couple times I would just try the drink and didn’t like it, so I won’t drink it. I have many family members who drink too much or have an alcohol problem and I don’t want that for my health. The second one that I found important that I never really thought about was the grams that are contained in an alcohol drink. I don’t think of this because I don’t drink. I have heard many people say before that one certain drink is better than the another drink for example of the calorie’s intake in them. These people don’t look at the whole picture of it that it should matter what you drink it still going to affect your life and your body. Once people get going on drinking, they don’t even think about how many grams of alcohol are in the drinks or anything about it. The last one that was talked about is the drinking and driving on how high it is with the numbers of accidents that happen. Some people are so quick to judge when certain accident happen that it was a drunk driver that is not always the case. If you are going to drink at a party or just hanging out with friends leave your car and get an uber. There is always the next day to get your car when your sober. My goals for my health that is related to alcohol is that I don’t drink. It not worth it to me to enjoy a good time by drinking you can have a good time without drinking. I grow up my life with my family members who have had a drinking problem or even recovered for drinking problem.  I want my life to be health with not having to intake the calories and by not putting on the extra weight from drinking. Another reasons is the bad decisions that are made if I were to drink, I don’t want to do something one time in my life that I would regret my whole life and people telling me what I did one night when I didn’t make a good decision. If I just don’t drink this won’t happen to me which will be better for me living my health lifestyle, I want for myself. I have a hard time already trying to lose weight so if I were to drink it would be even harder to get rid of the extra weight from alcohol intake.

Chapter 8

In chapter eight you find out more information about nutrition, effects to your body and food allergies/intolerance. When you think about nutrition there are many information to look at. You look for what the effects does to your body and what the calories are and so on. When it comes to me eating, I don’t look at the calories count or even look at the food labels on the foods. After reading this section. My goal to slow start reading the food label to see what I’m eating and what will be good for my healthy life I want. Another thing I want to do is watch how many calories I intake during the day. There are definitely times where I would go over calories when eating some days. The more calories I eat the more weight I will put on. My goal is to lose weight so one way that will help is by watching my calorie count. When it comes to the effect of food on your body is by short term and long term. I get acid reflex with certain food. I have had since I was a baby and it never went away. One thing I do to protect it from happening is watching what I eat that creates the effect on my body. For example, if I eat anything that is too spice like buffalo chicken is one example that will bother my stomach. From having this when eating foods will create a long-term issue/problem with your digestive system for example the esophagus will be affected when foods or reflex coming back up from your digestive system. Another goal I have been thinking about that involves nutrition intake is cutting back on the carbon calories I have at times. I take too much carbon calories on some days they are example of pasta. The food allergy or food intolerances that are very important in people live except if there are deadly allergy to certain food. There are many children now who has food allergy you can think of like peanut butter or eggs Allergy. I work with some many children and that’s the common Allergy now a days. It makes people wonder why these it was never a thing when I was younger. I heard people say it could be the way it’s made that can create the allergy. When I was young, I had my doctors tell me I could be allergy to dairy got tested for it, but I wasn’t. They told me it was intolerance to dairy meaning that I couldn’t have too much dairy during the day, or I would get any upset stomach. One thing I did to have a better healthy life was to cut back on the intake of dairy I having during the day and even not having any dairy or certain dairy. One of the dairies that I don’t even eat is yogurts and I don’t drink milk because I know if I have these it will brother my stomach which I would like to have a healthy lifestyle without eating too much dairy.

Chapter 9

When it comes to chapter Nine it brings up the point of obesity/overweight, weight management, and BMI. When you look at the obesity and overweight in the united states and worldwide it is up there now in percent for the amount of people who are. If you look at why many people are like that, I fell is that they would rather get fast food then made their own food. Part of the reason many people are like this is cause of the work schedule they have for being on the run well working or even on the run on the way to and from work. When this happens, they will be more likely to get food on the way home from fast food places for dinner. They do this for the reason of being tired after a long day of work and most people just want to go home and relax after work. It’s crazy to see the number of ratios of young children who are obsess in this life. The ratios are six to eleven children. When it comes to fast food place for my health life I don’t want to eat from certain places like McDonalds, Wendy, burger king, taco bell, dunkin’ donuts and other fast food places that are similar to these places. I do get food from subways and chipotle that is quick in and out getting food. My whole reason behind not eating at places like McDonald is because it not good for your body the number of calories and sodium that is in it. To me it a toxin that I don’t want to be in my body. I don’t like too much sodium in my food, and I don’t add extra salt to my food when I eat a meal. I don’t like the way it tastes and how it effects your body with a high-level sodium in your system. The second one is the weight management all my life I have had a hard time trying to lose weight and it a hard task to try to manage. If you look at mindful eating when it comes to family parties or even parties in generally there are many people, there who are just mindful eating. If the food is in front of you well at a party the person is most than likely going to eat the food till it moved/gone or they move it themselves. I do it so much at parties especially if the food is in front of me. My goals are to catch myself doing this with eating food in this case by walking away or move it away from me. Once this happens it will be managing my food intake for my weight when it comes to go to family parties. The book talks about statics for when it comes to computer user or people who watch tv and the mindful eating that is involved during this time. If you did its statics on going to family parties or any type of party the amount of people who are mindful eating would mostly likely be similar in the statics of watching tv that was done before. The last one is the BMI and other methods used for measurements. When you think about the BMI how many people are going to think how I figure out my BMI or even how many of them will calculate it together to see what there BMI is. The last time I was checked for the BMI it was a little over for the normal range for the age, height, and weight. One of my goals for this is to find out what it is and ways to get it down. I know that I’m about a couple pounds over what I would like to be for myself but I not overweight for normal women my age. I learned in the section the different ways to figure out a person body fat. One of them being the skinfold I would never think you could get a result from this method it also seems like it would be uncomfortable to use on your skin. If I have to choose any of these methods to use it would be the bioelectrical impedance analysis. Just for my own reason I would fell that it would be more accurate for me.

Chapter 4-5

Chapter Four:

Three important parts in chapter fours that are important to me and ways I want to better my health by the characteristics and types, social media, and skills for better communication. The characteristics and types that is part of what I want to work on is the self-esteem and self-acceptance. There are times where I said to myself that I’m not capable of doing things or I can’t do that. For example, I have had a hard time with coordination when it comes to exercise with certain materials like a weight ball. I tell myself all the time I can’t do it and when I don’t do it right, I will give up on it. I have found over the last couple weeks from the new gym I go to that it still like that. My plan is to keep on practice and getting better with the coordination skills when it comes to my exercising.  My other goal for this is if I catch myself not having self-esteem to stop myself and think to myself how this will help with my health. Social media I use too much during the day and at times when I’m spending time with family or friends. I’m the type of person who uses my phone just scrolling thought social media right before I got to bed which isn’t good for your brain to help when going to sleep. One goal I want to work on is slowly limit the amount of times I scroll through social media before bed and when I’m with family and friends spending time talking/enjoying their company instead of using social media. The last one that was important in this chapter was the better communication skills. I interrupt people when I talk with them I do it mostly with my family. There are times when I do interrupt a conversation, I catch myself doing it stopping when I’m saying to tell the person to finish what they were saying. I want to improve my communications skills by waiting for the person to finish them put their input to the conversation. 

Chapter Five:

During chapter 5 I have learned information for the emergency contraception. The percentile of women who use this pill reduce the chance of pregnant by 95% when taken 24 hours within. I never knew it would be that high of percent from just having one of the pills.  The second is the planning a pregnancy it important to living a health life. I’m not planning on having child myself anytime soon cause I’m still young and have time before having children. Once I do start planning a family there are many factors involved with the health of the women. My goal is to start living the healthy life so when I do decision to start a family and stuff, I will have a healthy pregnancy. The last one is childbirth and the postpartum period. One thing I learned was that there is another name for a miscarriage which it’s called spontaneous abortion. I have had family members who had problems with the pregnancy or even had miscarriage. This topic really gets too close to me and my family. It makes me think of goals for myself when I want to have children and ways to live my life to have good health lifestyle. When it comes to good health if I start now I will more likely had decrease in rate of any health problem like a miscarriage or other issues associated with pregnancy when I do start to have a family of my own. If I start now with the healthy lifestyle it will carry on with myself and my family with good habitats when it comes to your health.

Chapter Six:

This chapter talks about information about drugs by ways to get them, effects to your body, how you use them etc. One of the ones I learned from this chapter was that caffeine/coffee is a legal stimulant for many men and women used on a daily basis in their life’s. Now a days you never see someone without a coffee it’s so bad that people can’t do things in the morning when they first get up until they have their coffee. Another thing is that people can’t go on with their day if they don’t get another coffee sometime during the day.  There are many health effects to a person body when they start getting addicted to coffee one of them being how much sugar or the calories that is involved in them. I grow up my own live with many people around me drinking coffee. As I got old I told myself that I didn’t want to start drinking it because I would see my family with one and how it turned into an addiction for them. I tried coffee a couple times in my life and never liked it, so I didn’t keep on trying because I didn’t want to have to get used to having it every morning or on a daily basic. Another reason is because I want to watch what I eat and drink for my health. Coffee has so much sugar in it for me that it not part of the health eating habits I want in my life. The second one is the prescription drugs. I got my wisdom teeth out in high school painkillers drugs were what was used to help with the recovery of this was not good during that time but over time it has gotten worst with many people getting addition to them. When you get you wisdom teeth out, they give you painkillers I never once did I have them or want any of them. I didn’t want that because I want a health life and not get addicted to them knowing what happens to your body when you do get addicted to them.  I have heard many stories of people using painkillers drugs for a short period of them and then they get addiction to them and the life is turn upside down. The last one is the addictive behaviors. The one that made my thing about was the compulsive buying disorder. When I’m stressed I will go out shopping. There are many people who shop at target and I’m type of person who do that. When I go to target, I go in for a couple things on a list and always end up with getting more than planned. When this happens, I realize how much money I spend on my items. My goals for my health is not spending more money than what I should when I go into target cause when I spend that much more I stress too much about how I have no money now. If I don’t do that my health won’t be stressful on the money I spend.

Chapter 1-3

Chapter 1

During this chapter there were a couple different factors that are important in my life and there are some that I learned from. One of them was that I learned from was the spiritual health from the dimensions. When I think of spiritual, I think it’s about a person’s religion and beliefs. When you look at it more, you learn more about a person purpose of life of meaning, understand, and expressing their life. The second one is the preparation for a smart goal and physical health. The goals could be anything for a person that they make for themselves. For me I would make goals for exercising more than I do. I go to the gym a couple days a week and want to spend longer time there than I do now. There are times that I don’t get the chance do cause of my crazy schedule of work, babysitting, and school. When I don’t get the chance to go, I get very stressed out and at times tired and cranky. When this happens, I have to set a goal and free time to get to the gym to make my life healthy. When I set the goal to go to the gym more, I will add working out long there for example instead of working out for about 45 minutes doing about an hour a half while at the gym. Another one I would want to add to my goal in exercising is running a 5k again I did one before over a year ago and it was a huge accomplishment for me. The last one is the social health. All my life I have had trouble with socializing with being shy when I’m involved with new people in my life. Over the years I have gotten much better for interacting with other people and ways to communication with them. When I was a young teenage is when the shyness was really not a part of me when I started working. From being this way, I have not had a huge friend group thought school and college. Over my work experience and college, I have made a few new friends over that time which to me has shown how over many years your can change as a person and I changed by not being shy like I was when I was a young child.

Chapter 2

In chapter 2 the ones I liked reading about where the support system. When a person has a good support system it will help people figure out their lives. I have a big support system from my family and few friends I have. My parents all my life have support me for the person I am today. A year’s ago, when I joined the gym my mom supports me that she joined, and we would actually go to together. Which was nice to have someone with you who was on board and help working out with you. Since then she is not a member of a gym anymore and even thought I go to the gym but at times don’t have time she will support me to go back to the gym and encourage me to find time to go to the gym. Whenever I talked with my parents about anything involved in my life, they are always supported of me.  My friends are the same way with supporting me with what I do with my life. The second one is information that I learned from the studies that were done of the physical benefits of “33,000 adults found that indicators of social capital such as visiting friends & family. Attending church, belonging to meeting…. Improved biomarkers such as cholesterol and blood pressure”. This helped my learn that when being involved with something like this in your life will help with your physical and mental health. From those two ones there are others that are involved like social health with interacting with other people.  The last one which is part of physical benefits for the spiritual health important. Is the statics of the first-year college student meaning and purpose for life is three out of five students. When I was looking at college, I was planning on studies bakery because I did that in high school. The summer before starting college I changed my mind on what I wanted to do. I decide I would be better fit with studying early childhood education. Which was the best decision of changing before getting involved in something I didn’t want to do as a career. From this happen show a purpose to my life and what would help me find the career I would love to do which is working with young children. There are many college students who have a hard time figuring out what they want to do. My experience shows that you want to go for one thing than change over time. When I changed to what I wanted to do it helped me understand my meaning and purpose of life that I wanted to have.

Chapter 3

During chapter three the important parts to better my health is stress in my life, effects of stress and sleep. When you look at stress there are many reasons between it that are mental and physical to a person. When it comes to stress for myself, I stress too much about little things in life. I have some plans on ways to improve my health when it comes done to stress by two different ways. One can be by asking myself if is worthy to stress about. The second will be is there something or anything I can do to not stress about it. I stress a lot when it comes to school work/test that I’m not going to do good I have done this all my life. Before I would take a test, I would say I’m not going to do good once I take the test it is fine, and I get a good grade. Even years of doing this I shouldn’t think that way, but I still do a times. I have gotten better over the years thought. The second important part is the effects stress has on my body. When I stressed out about anything in my life at the time. One effect that happens to me is I break out with acne on my face in different spots. When this happens, I know I need to stop stressing out and the effects of this will not happen to me. The last one is sleep and making sure you get the right amount of sleep every night to have good health in your mental and physical life. I’m the type of person on the weekends to go to bed and wake up whenever. I don’t have to wake up at certain time for work or anything on the weekends. I also go to bed most week day at 11 and wake up between 7:00-7:45. From learning this information my plan to improve with my health is by going to bed a little early maybe 10 instead of 11. The other plan is to not have a free for all on times to go to bed and wake up on the weekends.

Hi,

My name is Katie Brooks. I’m a senior at Bridgewater State and majoring in Early Childhood Education and Care with a minor in childhood studies. This has ways been my passion since I was a child to work with young child to expand their learning and skills in life. I have worked as babysitter since the age of 14 and still do it but now as a nanny and I also work at a daycare as a teacher for over three years now.

 I have one more year here at Bridgewater with my major and minor has enough credits to graduate but found out not that long ago that I’m 6 credits shy for credits. From this happening I have to do free electives. I choose this course as one of the electives because I thought it was interesting to learn more about health and wellness for myself and to educate my family members or even the young children I work with. This is my first summer course that’s online so I will take me some time to get use to this because its much more different from being in class.

I hope to learn from this course is to educate myself in more information on health and wellness of eating health and exercise. My health aspect I’m choosing for this course is to eat healthier and important of exercise on a daily base. I want to work on these for myself to better my health. I do like to eat health meals and snacks like salad, and fruit for example but there are times I go out and eat everything and anything. One thing is that there are certain foods that are healthy that I don’t like or haven’t even tried I would like to try new foods that are healthy for your body.

The other one is how important exercise is for your body. I work out at the gym now but I’m not liking it anymore because I don’t think it’s doing anything for me so I’m trying out a cardio sport workout for a different workout to better my life. With these health aspects I would include them into my work with the young child by teaching the child which foods are healthier and getting them outside more to exercise more often.
